This paper present the seismic performances of a multi story low rise reinforced concrete frame building designed according to the provision of the current Eurocode 8 seismic code (EN1998). This study will be focused on the seismic load that apply on the RC builidng frame structure only. Tremors in Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia due to Sumatra and Philipine earthquake had been reported several times. Engineers are concerned about the seismic behavior of the building structure in Malaysia due to the unconcerned seismic code to during the design of structure. A typical 2 to 5 story reinforced concrete frame building is designed. Natural earthquake acceleration of May 18, 1940, El Centro, California earthquake, selected for the compatibility with the adopted design spectrum is used. The dynamic characteristic of the building frame structure are determined by using modal analysis which model by Finite Element Modeling/Analysis. The frame structure is evaluated using non linear dynamic response spectrum analysis. The assessment of dynamic behavior is based on the different building helight which is member level criteria. Dynamic characteristic of RC building frame including mode shape, natural frequency and damping factor is analyzed by using LUSAS software. Graph of acceleration Vs Time; response spectra Vs Period will be determined. The performances of the structure will be improved by adding the bracing member to the cirtical part. Results will be comparing between the braced and unbraced RC frame structure.
